How to access older IP camera's on newer browsers ? (2024)

Hi,

Is it possible to access older IP camera's on newer (year 2022) browsers ?

Back in 2015 I used to use IE and when access the camera IP you where questioned to install a ActiveX because without it won't work.
Then it would ask you to download a file named NewActive.exe from xmsecu.com whitch installs NetSurveillance software also nedded to setup your IP camera.

Now with the modern browsers you can access the camera IP but you can't view or setup anything, you only can login.

Is there a workaround to access such camera's nowadays ?

Run the video stream thru a VMS like Blue Iris or run it thru VLC. You have to bounce back forth between the two, but it can do the job except for drawing IVS rules.

The video stream is not my problem, I can't access any camera settings, I need to setup static IP and video preferences also NTP of my choice.

Have you tried the 32 bit version of Palemoon? It should work with the active-x download from the cam.

Even if it's been 4 years, I'd remove that s/w from xmeye / xiongmai which includes "NetSurveillance" ==>> Millions Of Xiongmai Video Surveillance Devices Can Be Hacked Via Cloud Feature (Xmeye P2p Cloud)

I have an old laptop with a old IE version and with that I can access the camera's.
Still I like to access them on Windows 10 and with a modern browser.

Update: Just tried the Palemoon browser with no success.

For now I have installed a Chrome Plug-in called "IE Tab" which schould support ActiveX but no success either.
At least it gives some message about IPv6 control not installed, I wil dig deeper about that error.

With older Dahua, Hikvision, etc., cams usually you'll see most everything other than the camera view and wherever that's used as in setting up motion rules and some other things. Still can be some browser-dependent quirks.

I remember that same interface from some old oddball cams that I've had. As I recall like you say they don't let you do as much without the plug-in. Not sure you'll find any modern browser that supports that now. I think that they've all eliminated support for the ActiveX plug-ins as security risks.

Just came across this thread and thought I would respond in case anyone else has this problem...

• Navigate to the IP address of the camera
• Download and install the Active-X executable
• Reload the web page for the camera
• you should not have access to the login prompt

You are new here and who knows if this is a bot, but many cameras still do not show all the features using Edge with Explorer mode enabled, thus why we show how to access the actual Internet Explorer.
